John W. Giltner, M.D. hails from Akron, Ohio, and holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from the University of Dayton. He pursued his medical education at the esteemed Wright State University Boonshoft School of Medicine, where his exceptional performance earned him induction into the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society. Following this, Dr. Giltner undertook his internship in internal medicine and ophthalmology residency at the University of Virginia.

Dr. Thomas Abell, III
Thomas G. Abell, III, O.D., lovingly referred to as Dr. Tom, is a distinguished graduate of Western Kentucky University and a proud member of the inaugural class of 2020 at the University of Pikeville College of Optometry. His achievements include earning honors from the Beta Sigma Kappa Honors Society and receiving the prestigious award for Ophthalmic Optics.
Dr. Tom is not only dedicated to providing comprehensive examinations for eyeglasses and contact lenses, but he also offers expert consultations for LASIK and cataract procedures. His expertise extends to the treatment of various eye conditions and diseases, including glaucoma and dry eye. Moreover, he is adept at performing surgical and laser procedures within the office setting.
Beyond his professional pursuits, Dr. Tom finds joy in outdoor adventures with his family, often enjoying activities like hiking and fishing. An avid culinary enthusiast, he takes great pleasure in the art of cooking. Dr. Tom, his wife Bridget, their cherished son, and their beloved dog Hank, call Campbellsville their home. Dr. Forest T. Pope
Forest T. Pope, O. D., is a distinguished graduate from Berea College Class of 2018 with a major in Cell and Molecular Biology. Dr. Pope is a proud alumnus of the University of Pikeville College of Optometry. His dedication to his craft has not gone unnoticed. He was honored with the prestigious Pioneer International Senior Leadership award during his time at the University.
Dr. Pope conducts thorough assessments for eyeglasses, soft and scleral contact lenses, and leads the Dry Eye Clinic at Abell Eyes. In addition to these services, he offers treatment for glaucoma and performs minor office procedures.
Beyond the realm of optometry, Dr. Pope’s heart beats for a few key passions. Being a 2x All American baseball player himself, he is an avid supporter of UK athletics. You’ll often find him cheering passionately for his beloved Wildcats. He’s also on a never-ending quest to discover the world’s finest cup of coffee, a journey that he takes with his wife Riley and their two furry companions. For Dr. Pope, optometry is more than a profession; it’s a calling. A graduate of the University of Kentucky and its College of Medicine, Dr. Abell completed his internship at Jewish Hospital (Cincinnati) before serving as Chief Resident in the Department of Ophthalmology at the University of Kentucky Medical Center.
With a surgical career dating back to 1985, Dr. Abell’s expertise has touched the lives of over 35,000 refractive surgery patients. He holds a prominent position on Alcon’s Refractive Clinical Advisory Board, a testament to his standing as a leader in the field. Dr. Abell is a board-certified ophthalmologist and a distinguished member of the American Board of Ophthalmology, the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons, and the American College of Eye Surgeons.
Dr. Abell’s contributions extend beyond surgical practice. He played a pivotal role in advancing techniques of intraocular lens implant and refractive surgery, earning a place as a core investigator in the FDA’s American Laser In-situ Keratomileusis (LASIK) study (CRS/USA).
